Super Typhoon Haiyan battering the Leyte Park Resort, Tacloban, Leyte, in the Philippines, on 8th November 2013. Haiyan was the strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded to have made landfall, with sustained winds of more than 300 kilometres per hour at its peak. The island of Leyte, and in particular its capital Tacloban, bore the brunt of Haiyan's force. More than 6200 people were confirmed killed, with nearly 2000 missing.
