Tarantula Nebula, James Webb telescope image
James Webb Telescope mosaic image of the Tarantula Nebula spanning 340 light years across taken by the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). The Tarantula Nebula is situated in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). The image shows a star-forming region with young massive stars shining in blue. To the upper left of the cluster of young stars, and the top of the nebula’s cavity, an older star prominently displays NIRCam’s distinctive eight diffraction spikes.
