The secondstrip is wrapped around the elbow and passed over theshoulder of the sound side so as to support the injuredarm. The third strip acts merely as a sling to supportthe hand, being passedover the injured it exertsmoderate pressure on thefragments from above andin front. One indicationAvhich is not met by thismethod is the restorationof the axillary space; i. e.,of the normal distancebetween the shoulder andthorax. For this pur-pose a pad of some softmaterial, covered withgauze, should be placedin the axilla and fixed insome simple way. Thedressing may be ad-vantageously reinforcedby a few turns of a rollerbandage in order toenhance its the same time a smallpad may be fixed overthe seat of fracture soas to produce a slightdownward pressure onthe sternal fragment. In the summer-time it is well to dust the area covered
