Later, he was a councilman, aldermanand member of the school committee. He was Deputy Secretaryof State of New Hampshire, 1855-1858, and Register of Deedsof Merrimac County, New Hampshire, 1858-1861. He was re-siding in Washington, D. C, in 1863. He enlisted in Company F,Eighteenth regiment New Hampshire Volunteers Sept. 24, 1864,for one year, as musician; appointed as principal musician Jan. i,1865; and mustered out June 10, 1865. He was again Secretaryof State of New Hampshire, 1866-1870; and then Secretary ofState for one year, his time expiring just before his death.
