Competitive nature of cultures of the peoples of Southern Siberia, Central Asia, and the Caucuses. Folk holidays and games: baiga (a contest of riders) and audaryspak (fighting on horseback to unseat your rival) the competition of representatives from low and different societal groups, always including blacksmiths and farriers, and also kyz kuu (“overtake the young woman” – the prize is marriage) and many wedding games of this sort— a competition between the bridegroom and the bride, the bride’s girlfriends of bride and the bridegroom’s attendants. Similar rural Agonic ritual games always took place in large gatherings, at events where different families would gather – primarily weddings and funeral feasts.
