In the midst of the bazar is the great beautyof Sarajevo—the famous mosque, called Begova-Dzamija,which was built by Usref, Pasha of Bosnia and conquerorof Jajce in the second quarter of the sixteenth was the real founder of Turkish Saraj, which underthe old Bosnian kingdom had little importance, and ofall his works this mosque is the finest. Standing in acool courtyard, where the plash of a beautiful foun-tain never ceases, and a splendid lime-tree of vast agegives shade to the worshipper as he perform his ablutions, the Begova-Dzamija is typical of that repose which theMoslem so dearly loves, and of that cleanliness whichin his religion is not second, but equivalent, to godliness. 147.
