Crocodile monitor lizard (Varanus salvadori). This is the largest lizard in the world, reaching a length of about metres. It is found only in Papua New Guinea, where it lives up in the trees in the canopy of the rainforest. It feeds mostly on carrion and small reptiles. It is a docile animal and often sold as a pet.
