Washington (July 24, 2017) Seaman Jonathan Gibford, from Chicago, conducts maintenance on sliding pad eyes in USS John C. Stennis’ (CVN 74) hangar bay. Sliding pad eyes are used to receive the ship's cargo during underway replenishments. John C. Stennis is conducting a planned incremental availability (PIA) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, during which the ship is undergoing scheduled maintenance and upgrades.
