The First Church of Christ Scientist, was or-ganized October 2, 1900, though a small com-pany of persons of that belief had been holdingservices for some seven or eight years 1902 the former Unitarian chapel on StateStreet near Victoria was purchased, and in 1906removed to its present location at the corner ofAnacapa and Micheltorena Streets, where it hasbeen greatly enlarged. 223 S A N r A BAR H A R A Other societies of a religious nature are to befound in Santa Barbara, representing almost allsects, as well as a fine edifice housing the YoungMens Christian Association, at the corner ofChapala and Carrillo Streets. Recreation Center The Recreation Center, in East CarrilloStreet, is the home of many organizations andclubs, and besides reading and billiard rooms formen, contains transient rooms for women, en-dorsed by the Y. W. C. A., and an informationbureau. The building is open daily, Sundaysand holidays included, from 7 to 10:30
