Anglers at the Galata Bridge In the background left the Galata Tower 1348. Istanbul, Turkey. The men - pensioneers, unemployed, or just people enjoying their sparetime - standing with their fishing rods hanging over the Galata Bridge, which span the Golden Horn, or Bosphorus, seems to be just as everlasting and unchangable as the Galata Tower in the background. The 62 meter (205-ft) Galata Tower was built in 1348 by merchands from Genova with the intension of providing a fortification. The Ottoman s used it as a watchtower and now it is a famous tourist spot and a landmark for this part of Istanbul. Checking out the anglers catch seems altogether to be anchovies, which some sell to the merchands at the nearby Fish Bazaar at the end of the bridge.
