The giant yellow rubber duck arrives in Darling Harbour in Sydney, as part of the Sydney Festival 2013 opening day.


The first day of the Sydney Festival 2013, which runs from 5 – 27 January, saw the arrival of a giant yellow rubber duck at Darling Harbour. The rubber duck is a 15 x 15 metre ‘artwork’, by Dutch artist Florentijn One: An Opening in Three Acts: The ArrivalAt 3pm the giant yellow rubber duck took off from where it had been moored and was then pushed by a barge boat towards the Pyrmont Bridge, which is a pedestrian and cyclists bridge crossing Darling Pyrmont Bridge opened up to let the rubber duck through. Crowds gathered on the part of the Pyrmont Bridge either side that hadn’t been opened, whilst others waited down below around Darling played as if to mark the arrival of a deity. The giant yellow rubber duck can be seen in Darling Harbour during the festival.
