Vintage photograph taken in 1950 at the Lochy Bridge Petrol Station at Fort William, western Highlands, Scotland, UK. Pump attendant wearing a flat cap and expansive trousers held up by braces or suspenders refuels a black car with Regent petrol, a brand that disappeared from British forecourts in 1969 after being taken over by Texaco in 1956.

Lochy Bridge, Fort William, western Highlands, Scotland: welcome to the Highlands … in 1950, a male Scottish forecourt attendant wearing a flat cap and wide-legged trousers held up by braces or suspenders fills a black car with Regent petrol, a brand that vanished from British forecourts in 1969 after the company merged with Texaco in 1956. Before it disappeared, the Regent brand was advertised in the 1960s using slogans such as “Ride Regent - the lively one!” and “Regent: Get Out Of Town - Fast!”, accompanied by images of female models wearing Regent T-shirts and ‘cowgirl’ hats as they posed with petrol pumps, hoses and nozzles. This vintage monochrome panoramic format photograph comes from the collection of a family who lived in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It was shot in the year 1950.
