I therefore with pleasure can state, that through the aid of techni-cal progress we have succeeded and obtained a most charming chemi-cal device in the form of a porous clay crucible manufactured by afirm in one of the New England States, and therefore an Americanproduction of the highest esteem, and importance to the chemist, 344 Rapid Determination of Sulphuric Acid.{ Km^\^rm- because it fully eliminates the filter paper process, which is one ofthe most objectionable features in most of the chemical proceduresand analytical work of all kind, every chemist will welcome this por-ous crucible because we all know the difficulty in burning filters, in re-gard to the ashes and at last, but not least, the reducing action ofthe carbon of the filter which is highly objectionable, especially intin; sulphur determination. These and many other objections whichare daily observed in regard to these methods have led me to devise. HEAVY RUBBERTUBING FIG 3 a new porous crucible which enables the chemist to make a dozen oreven more sulphur determinations in comparatively the same lengthof time spent to make a single filter determination considering allpoints of importance in regard to boiling and addition of bariumsalts, etc. Taking the advice of Hintz and Weber in their extensivestudy of this especial method, if we operate under the samecaution and condition, there arises one and the same inaccuracywhich can be tolerated in this method and by the other methodsand greatly increase the accuracy after all. ^jKimi*™} RopM Determination of Sulphuric Acid. 345 1 therefore describe this most simple and rapid determination of sulphuric acid, taking normal sulphuric acid as a standard Gm. of H2S04 to the litre: 10 of n/j—H2S04 are trans-formed from a burette or pipette to a beaker of 300 or 400 , theacid is then diluted with three or four times or more by volume ofdist
