Thousands had filed applications and wereawaiting the Governments decision. Nearly 5,000 youngmen entered the training-camps for reserve officers. Nineuniversities offered schools for preliminary training pendingthe completion of the training-fields. The engines used in American, French English, and Cana-dian manufacture were standardized, so that it would bepossible to ship engines manufactured in this country toEngland and France for use there.
