Unprecedented security arrangements were seen in Srinagar city on Saturday as police personnel and paramilitary central reserve police force (CRPF) troopers wearing bullet proof vests and holding automatic weapons took up positions along roads and at important installations.

Normal life was paralysed due to restrictions and a call for civil curfew by separatist leaders in Kashmir on Saturday. Shops and other business establishments remained closed while public and private transport was off the roads in Srinagar and other district headquarters of the valley. Separatist leaders had called for a civil curfew in case authorities disallowed the ‘Srinagar million march’. Policemen in riot gear had barricaded all the entry points to the city. Only those with security passes to the rally were allowed to move ahead. All the separatist leaders were either detained or placed under house arrest to prevent the proposed march at TRC Grounds , at a stone throw from Sher-I-Kashmir stadium where PM Modi addressed a rally.
