BLACKLEDGE, WILLIAM S., of Craven county, who was in Con-gress 1821-3, was a native of Pitt county. He was also a member of thelegislature from Craven in 1820. His father, William Blackledge, waslong a member of the legislature from Craven in 1797-8-9 and in Con-gress from 1803-9 and again 1811-13. He was for a while a resident ofPitt county. His grandfather, WilliamJames, came to Pitt countyfrom the Eastern Shore of Vir-ginia and was a Revolutionarysoldier. His mother was adaughter of Godfrey Langley,who was a very prominent farmer and business man. He was educated at the Pitt Academy and the University of NorthCarolina.
