Chinook woman and child, artwork. The child is strapped into a contraption that will flatten its forehead. The board across its skull will be gradually lowered until the forehead is at the same angle as the nose. The result of the flattening can be seen on the child's mother. The Chinooks were a group of North American tribes that lived in the Pacific Northwest. Image first printed in 1870.
