The Neue Wache in Unter Den Linden East Berlin in East Germany during the Cold War. The Neue Wache was built under the orders of King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia. It was a guard house for the nearby Palace of the Crown Prince. He commissioned the leading exponent of classicism in architecture to design the building, Karl Friedrich Schinkel. This picture was taken before the end of the Cold War and the building was located in the Soviet sector of Berlin in the German Democratic Republic. It was a memorial to the Victims of Fascism and Militarism.
