A short section of the Bethesda Park branch of theGeorgetown & Tenallytown Railway at Washington hasbeen fitted up with a conduit system which is the inven-tion of F. L. King, Hutchins building, Washington, It is of a very peculiar and novel construction. Theconduit, which is only seven inches deep and rests on theties, is covered by a series of iron trap doors. Under. these doors runs a continuous 4-ply leather belt. On thecar are two pulleys which lift the cover as the car passesalong and allows the trolley to make contact with theuncovered trolley wire. When the car has passed, thecover falls back into place again. The trolley wire islaid on top of a strip of insulating wood and supportedon channel irons in the middle of the conduit. The sides
