The device consists of an iron pipewith several small holes in the bottom,which extends across the smokebox .310millimeters above the center line of theboiler and 130 millimeters from the frontend. This pipe is plugged at one endand connected at the other end by meansof a union nut and elbow to a small pipeon the outside of the boiler, which runsback underneath the running board, andis connected to a valve tapped into theinjector check on the left side of theboiler back head. In this way water fromthe boiler feed pipe can be turned intothe sprinkler pipe in the smokebox toextinguish hot
