He came to Lee Countj with hisfather in 1838, where, for three years, he as-sisted the latter in his trade as mill-right. In1841 he removed South, where he remainedeight years, and then (in 1849) crossed theplains to California in search of gold. Return-ing from the gold fields in 1851, he located atLee Center, where he engaged in the manufac-ture of plows; afterwards engaged in farmingat Palestine Grove: later spent several yearsin Missouri and Colorado, but since 1SS3 haslived retired at Lee Center.
