Breeds north of the United States, east of the Rocky ; (A. O. U.) Adult: Top of head, rufous brown, a gray stripe over the eye and a narrow rufous stripe extending from the eye backward; a short. Tree Sparrow. narrow streak of rufous on side of throat, from base of lower mandi- ble; back, streaked with rufous brown, black and pale buff; rump, brownish gray; breast, grayish white, with an obscure dusky mark or small irregular spot in the middle; belly, dull white; sides of body, pale brownish buff; wing coverts, with black centres broadly edged with rufous and tipped with white, forming a noticeable white wing.
