Tourists and New Yorkers of all races and nationalities crowd Chinatown in New York for Chinese New Year on Friday, January 31, 2014. The gala features dragon dancing troupes and other festivities ushering in the Year of the Horse, 4712 in the Lunar calendar. New York is deciding for the first time whether to decree Chinese New Year as a school holiday. The state requires schools to provide 180 days of instruction a year. On the Lunar New Year many Asian families do not send their children to school but take off the holiday to traditionally visit family and eating meals of auspicious city already suspends Alternate Side of the Street Parking.
