A portrayal by Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788) of Arthur Chichester, 1st Marquess of Donegall (1739-1799), an English nobleman and politician in Ireland. After taking his seat in the Irish House of Lords in 1765, Donegall served at Westminster as Member of Parliament for Malmesbury from 1768 to 1774 during which time it was reported he never spoke in the House, and did not stand for reelection in 1774.
