As may be seen from the bathymetric chart, very great differences of depth occur at adjacent stations and it is impossible from the present data to obtain sufficient figures from which satisfactory topographical charts may be drawn of the sea surface in relation (say) to the 2000 or 1500 decibar surfaces. Consequently some arbitrary treatment is necessary on account of the great differences
