A Japanese warping machine is used in the state run silk factory in Mysore, India. Sericure - silk production - has been practiced in Mysore State since Tipu Sultan encouraged it in the late 18th century, with French aid, as a means of growing economically to beat the British. Silk production in modern Karnataka is undergoing something of a renaissance, with increased production figures and increased demand from an increasingly wealthy Indian population.
