A Japanese folding chair(kyokuroku),19th century Red lacquered wood,gilt backrest carved with swastika motifs,black leather seat,engraved brass fittings. Imperfections and damages in need of restoration. Height 103 cm,width 83 cm,length folded 116 cm. Kyokurokus were introduced to Japan by Chinese priests. Samurai took these folding chairs with them on their travels and campaigns,but they were also employed on festive occasions such as the Imperial Coronation.
