Sunrise reflection on an orographic cloud over Longs Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, USA
Orographic cloud formations often form when rising land forms push air upward, cooling it and forming clouds. Orographic clouds can also signal high winds and thunderstorms. Interestingly, this particular cloud was photographed the morning before a heavy afternoon rainfall, and just a few days before the historic 2013 floods that devastated Estes Park, Boulder and many small communities throughout Colorado, leading to a disaster declaration for 14 counties.
