The confluence of the River Irwell and the River Irk in city centre Manchester. The rivers meet by a railway viaduct adjacent to Manchester Victoria railway station and the Manchester Arena. The River Irk is a river in North West England that flows through the northern suburbs of Manchester before merging with the River Irwell in the city centre. The River Irwell is a 39-mile (63 km) long river which flows through the Irwell Valley in North West England. Its source is at Irwell Springs on Deerplay Moor, approximately miles ( km) north of Bacup. It forms the boundary between Manchester and Salford and empties into the River Mersey near Irlam.
