They are so constructed that the fares are kept in sight from one end of theroad to the other, and at any point on the line an officer of the company, or indeed any other person, can tally passengers with the fares. The drops can easilycarry from 75 to 80 fares, and can be counted without mistake, and counterfeit money can be easily detected.
