Quinceañera participant Paloma Lozoya during the Catholic Mass for the 15 year-old girls in the main cathedral in Juárez.

The city of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, one of the world's most violent urban areas, sponsered a group quinceañera for some 150 girls from low-income families who otherwise could not have afforded the ceremony. A quiceañera is a rite-of-passage ritual for many 15 year-old girls in Latin American countries, similar to a 'sweet sixteen' or debutante coming-out party in the US.
