They are averseto cultivation, and slow in acquirngknowledge, sedate, proud, restless, sly,revengeful, fond of war, and whollydestitute of maritime adventure, and are rapidly disappearing from theearth before the all-conquering march of the fV AMERICAN RACE. The Malays have tawny or dark brownskins, coarse, black hair, larg9 mouth,broad, short noses, seeming as if brokenat the root, projecting upper jaws, andprotruding teeth. The forehead is broadand low, the crown of the head high. Themoral character of the Malays is of an in-ferior order. They are active, ingenious,and fond of maritime pursuits, and exhibitconsiderable intellectual capacity.
