IN the former pari of ihe year 1810, a lunnber of individualsresiding in the upper part of the town of Newark, andmembers of the first Presbyterian congregation, being impressedwith the importance of having a Second Presbyterian Church,adopted incipient measures for the accomplishment of thisobject. A year before this, at a meeting of the members of theFirst Church, it was evolved, that it was •• advisable for thissociety to build another meeting-house; but no successfulmovement was made, till the time above mentioned, for theestablishment of a second church. On tlie iSth of June, 1810,the corner-stone of the church edifice was laid with appropriate.
