Founded in 1890 as the first accident clinic in the world to rescue accidental miners, today it is one of the most modern and efficient acute care hospitals with maximum care and has acquired a reputation as a clinic of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in science and research. In 22 clinics and specialist departments with 622 beds, more than 19,000 patients are treated inpatient and 60,000 outpatients each year. The clinic currently employs more than 2,000 people.
