WANDERINGS IN BIBLE LANDS. 139 kept free from sand and are easy of access. The materialis alabaster and the red granite from Assuan. The archi-tecture is simple in style. The skill of the stone-cutterand mason is fully equal to that displayed in the GrandGallery and Kings Chamber of the pyramid. The greatmasses of granite are shaped with exquisite skill, and thelapse of ages has not moved them a hairbreadth fromwhere the masons laid them. We spent but two days atthe Pyramids and the Sphinx, only time enough to becomefully impressed with the magnitude ana grandeur of thesevast monuments of The Granite Temple, the Sphinx and the Great Pyramidfrom the Southeast.
