By the term surfeit or urticaria, is^ understood a condition of the skin characterised by the eruption of a number of irregularly circular or ovoid • elevations, or lumps. These elevations are generally formed suddenly, and the parts most commonly affected are the loins, neck, and hind-quarters. Surfeit in almost all instances is due to impaired digestion, brought on by various causes. The .affection is, as a rule, not characterised by great itching, though no doubt
