The cooperage stock market at Buffalo is slightly easier han it has been. Bass- wood heading is selling at bl/z to 6% cents a set and elm staves at $9 to $9. so for first class. At I hicago considerable enquiry is reported for 30 inch No. 1 elm staves. The Hanbury Manufacturing Co., of Brandon, Man., have 200 men and 6s teams employed on their limits in the Riding mountains. Work so far has been very successful, and the cut of logs is ex- pected to be much greater than that of any previous season. Some comment was excited in Chicago last week by the receipt of enquiries for stock to be shipped to Ottawa. These en- quiries were for long wide joists, and in one instance it developed that 2x14-20 feet was selling in the Chicago market on a basis of $2 per thousand less than the same stock is bringing in Ottawa. Two vessels cleared from British Co- lumbia ports last week with lumber.
