No pain shouldbe experienced by the passive motion. Painful passive motionis harmful. After a few days of these gentle passive motions itwill be wise to alter the angle of the splint so that the armmay rest in the changed position permanently. After aboutfour or five weeks all splints should be omitted. A bandageshould be worn after the removal of the splints to afford supportto the elbow. 218 FRACTURES OF THE BONES OF THE FOREARM Union of the fragments usually takes place in from three tofour weeks.
