JaphetLister, however, died leaving only one daughter. The Samuel Lister, of Horton, to whom the Hortonestates were thus bequeathed, subsequently resided atIManningham, and was an attorney-at-law and clerk to thetrustees of the turnpike road between Bradford and Keighley,by way of Toller Lane and Cottingley ; also of the turnpikebetween Dudley Hill and Killinghall. He is described as a cousin of theListers of Shibden. At any rate, he never came into theproperty, nor did Mary Hemingway. In explanation, it should be stated that Elizabeth, sisterof Samuel Lister, married in 1740 Henry Hemingway, anoted attorney, then residing at Boldshay Hall. She died in1772. leaving an only daughter, Mary, the niece referred toin Samuel Listers will, and who was married to Dr. Crowther,of Leeds, and subsequently of York. Samuel Lister, how-ever, married again, as stated above, I^orothy Lister, and shebecame tenant for life of her husbands estates. At his deceaseDorothy married for her second husband Richard Hodsden,and it was only after her death in 1814 that Miss ElizabethCrowther, the only surviving daughter of Dr. Crowther andMary Hemingway, entered into possession of the Listerestates as heir-at-law of Samuel Lister, besides succeeding tothe Bol
