Chrysalises infected with parasitic larvae. Chrysalises of the small tortoiseshell butterfly (Aglais urticae) with thin threads extending from them. These silken threads were used by maggots of the parasitic fly Sturmia bella to leave their hosts. The maggots then form their own cocoons (oval, brown and yellow) and change into adult flies.
