Tarlescough, Lancashire, UK. 29th November, 2016. UK Weather. Another cold night in prospect as a lone Grey Heron flies to its roost. The mere froze overnight and has remained covered with ice with temperatures expected to fall further. Martin Mere, known local as Lancashire’s lost lake, is a wetland nature reserve in the west coast and is home to thousands of migratory birds, ducks and swans who are provided with supplementary feed as their natural food becomes harder to obtain from the frozen ground.
