Papyrus paper production. Image 3 of 5. Sheet made of strips of papyrus (Cyperus papyrus) pith (not seen) being pressed. The strips have been pounded and soaked to make them more pliable. Two layers of the strips have been placed on a cotton sheet, perpendicular to one another, and then another cotton sheet placed on top. The sheet is being be pressed to remove any excess liquid. Once the cotton sheets have become soaked they will be replaced, and the procedure repeated until all moisture is removed. A number of sheets are pressed together to form one sheet of papyrus paper. Photographed in Egypt. For a sequence showing production see T926/107 to T926/111.
