The place where we expectedto see the bird was about one hundred yards onone side. We waited a long time, however, anddid not see it, but on our rising and standingabove the bush a Norfolk Plover was seen to leaveits nest, and then, with head bent low, to runswiftly away. Not noticing the bird or its actions,we watched the place which it had left, and walkingforward, were at last rewarded by finding the nestshown in my illustration. When we were lookingat the two handsomely marked eggs the Ploverherself was seen far off running along a ridge of If^^l ->zs:C-.
