Trilobite fossil. Fossil of the trilobite Ellipsocephalus uniformis. The trilobites are an extinct group of marine arthropods with a hard, segmented shell that is divided into 3 sections. Trilobites from the Ellipsocephalus group were among the first to be discovered, in the late nineteenth century. The group lived from the Lower to the Upper Cambrian period (around 543-512 million years ago). It was distributed across regions now covered by the land masses of Europe, northern Africa and New Jersey, USA. Most trilobites were bottom dwellers, feeding either on organic sediment or by catching their own prey. Found in Morocco.
