For decades represented by Conservative Party MPs, North Kensington falls within the parliamentary constituency of Kensington, currently the most marginal in the whole of England, won off the Tories by the Labour Party and its candidate, Emma Dent Coad, by just 20 votes in the 2017 general election held just a week before the tragedy. In the upcoming December 12 election the constituency is again a key battleground, this time with the Liberal Democrats and their ex-Tory candidate Sam Gyimah also strongly in contention.
