Terraformed Mars. Computer artwork of a terraformed Mars, showing clouds (white), water (blue) and land (brown). Terraforming is the hypothetical process of deliberately modifying a planet's atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to those of Earth. On Mars this would involve raising the temperature so that water remains liquid. Scientist believe this process would take several 100,000 years to complete on Mars.
