PACIFIC OCEAN (Feb. 07, 2017) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Desiree Perez, of Baldwin Park, California, directs the crew of an F/A-18F Super Hornet on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) flight deck. The ship and its carrier strike group are on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of 3rd Fleet. Navy aircraft carrier strike groups have patrolled the Indo-Asia-Pacific regularly and routinely for more than 70 years.
