Ostrava (Ostrawa in Polish, Ostrau in German) is a statutory, regional and university city in the north-east of the Czech Republic in the Moravian-Silesian Region, near the Polish border. It is located at the confluence of the Odra, Opava, Ostravice and Lučina rivers. In terms of population and area, Ostrava is the third largest city in the Czech Republic, the second largest city in Moravia and the largest city in the Czech Silesia (located on the border of these two historical countries). There are approximately 289 thousand [2] inhabitants, but almost 1 million inhabitants live in the entire Ostrava agglomeration, which is the second largest agglomeration in the Czech Republic after Prague.
