Detail of two storied rooms in the south eastern roomblock of Pueblo Bonito multi-storey Anasazi great house, Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, USA. Shows ground floor rectangular doorway connecting to other rooms, and first floor windows including a corner window above a line of broken ponderosa pine viga (ceiling/floor supports). Some of the corner windows are thought to be used for observing astronomical alignments, and the larger opening on the first floor may have served as a doorway. Largest and best known of the Great Houses in Chaco Canyon, considered the type site for the Classic Bonito Phase (AD1020-1120) of Chacoan Culture. The masonry style is Type III, Some of the corner windows at Pueblo Bonito may have been used to observe movements of the sun or the moon to anticipate calendrical ceremonies.
