Unfortunately for Fra Filippo, his tenure of thisclerical benefice, a veritable sinecure which musthave been a welcome addition to his professionalgains, was not of very long duration, and we shallsee how he was deprived of it under extremely dis-graceful circumstances. The Sant Ambrogio altar-piece, confirming FraFilippos fame as one of the leading artists inFlorence, had the effect of bringing him numerouscommissions and was followed by a period of greatactivity.
